On behalf of Queen’s University, the City of Kingston and the XC2010 organizing committee, I would like to welcome you to the World University Cross Country Championship website.

Queen’s University hosted their first cross country race in 1910 and  100 years later on April 11, 2010 Queen’s will welcome runners from around the globe as it hosts the 17th edition of this prestigious World Championship.

With such a rich tradition of hosting cross country events, it seems only fitting that the event itself is held next to one of Canada’s most historic landmarks, Old Fort Henry.

The championship races will be the climax of a week filled with events ranging from educational sessions on endurance training, to community races, and multicultural celebrations.

Don’t miss this opportunity to see some of the best runners in the world from over 24 countries as they battle it out at Fort Henry for both team and individual glory.

Please take a moment to sign up for our weekly newsletter and get involved in welcoming the world to our city.  To those countries which will be competing, we look forward to your arrival in the Limestone City and know you will find Kingston a safe, friendly community that is passionate about sports!

Kingston has successfully bid to host the World University Cross Country Championships in 2010.  The men’s and women’s world university championship races will be held on the afternoon of Sunday, April 11th, 2010 at the world-class course on Fort Henry Hill, with its surrounding views of Fort Henry, Lake Ontario and the City of Kingston.   Held every two years under the auspices of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), this is the first time that these championships have been staged outside the Western Hemisphere.

In addition to the world championship races, the organizing committee is planning other events such as an endurance summit, multicultural events and children’s races to add to the weekend activities.
